African Simba Slot

African Simba is a 5 reel, 243 ways to win safari-themed slot powered by Novomatic. The likeliest way to secure a big beast of a jackpot is the via the bonus feature that comes with 12 free spins with all wins boosted by a 3x multiplier and trebled. Playable across all devices, head onto the plains from between 50p and £50 per spin.

Set against the grasslands of Africa, the reels include a selection of wild animals. Look out for flamingo, meerkats, buffalo and giraffe. They're joined by the usual selection of low value playing card symbols. The mighty lion is the game's wild, appearing on the middle 3 reels only - it doesn't offer anything in the payout stakes but will substitute for every other symbol apart from the scatter.

The mountain scene symbol is African Simba's scatter - it can land on all 5 reels and will trigger the Free Games feature if you land at least 3 of them. Once triggered, you'll be awarded 12 free spins. There's plenty of extra value on offer here too courtesy of the 3x multiplier which will treble the payouts from any winning combinations that you may hit.

Land 3 or more of the scatter during the feature and you'll re-trigger the feature and be awarded another dozen free spins (giving you a total of 24), once again with the 3x multiplier.

As usual with Novomatic powered slots, the sound and imagery are solid rather than spectacular - the symbols are nicely drawn and come complete with some nifty animations to herald a winning combination. The soundtrack is pretty standard, albeit punctuated by blasts of Africa when you do hit a winner.

The variance here is on the high side of medium - expect plenty of times when you won't spot anything of interest on this safari jaunt. The action really comes alive during the free spins round where the 3x multiplier can quickly get the coins flowing. The feature doesn't hit that often though so take that into consideration if you're playing with a limited bankroll.

A classic African Simba isn't but it's a playable little slot. If you like the African/animal theme, it's one that's worth a look. I would also recommend Playtech’s White King and WMS Gaming’s Raging Rhino which are both more volatile offerings.
