We’re sometimes a little sniffy about the design of Ainsworth’s slot games but Ming Warrior is 1 of the developer’s better efforts. We’re not talking Thunderkick or Yggdrasil Gaming good but they’re decent enough.
Flanked by a pair of pillars draped in dragons, the reels include Asian style A to 9 playing card values plus a selection of Chinese warrior-themed objects. You’ll see flags, swords, daggers and horses spinning around the reels. You only need to land 2 of these symbols to create a winner. The horse is the best of them, paying 50 times your total stake if you land 5 in combination.
Joining the standard symbol is the Ming Warrior himself who is the wild - he can land anywhere on reels 2, 3, 4 or 5 and substitute for everything apart from the scatter.
The coin is the scatter - land 3, 4 or 5 of these anywhere on the same spin and you’ll win an award equal to 2, 20 or 100 times your total stake. You’ll also trigger 1 of the 2 feature rounds - these are awarded at random:
- If you get Free Games feature 1, you can look forward to 10 free spins. Any wins that include the warrior wild are doubled.
- In Free Games feature 2, you’ll also get 10 free spins. This time, any winning paylines that include the warrior wild benefit from a massive 8x multiplier.
In both features, re-triggers occur when you land 2 coin scatters. An extra 5 free spins are added to your tally.
Like many Ainsworth games, Ming Warrior is all about the Free Games feature. Land the Free Spins 2 and the 8x multiplier can quickly deliver some impressive rewards. Expect lengthy spells in between landing the free spins round though.
Ming Warrior is 1 of Ainsworth’s better efforts, both in terms of design and playability. There’s nothing especially innovative on offer but for some high octane, volatile action, Ming Warrior can deliver. If the theme is to your liking, The Great Ming Empire by Playtech is recommended.
