Dragon Champions Slot

Epic sword and sorcery adventure is on offer in Dragon Champions, a fantasy-themed slot game from Playtech. It’s a 6 reel, 4,096 ways to win game that comes with symbols that can expand in 4 directions and a bonus feature that can award infinite free spins. Play on all devices from between 40p and £80 per spin.

The basement of a mediaeval castle, filled full of gold and treasure, forms the backdrop to the reels. Those reels include the usual lower value royal symbols plus a female archer, a magician in armour, and male and female warriors. The best of the symbols is the red dragon which awards 40, 120, 160, 200 or 400 coins if you land 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 on adjacent reels. There’s also a wild that replaces everything bar the scatter.

On any spin, a standard symbol can be edged in blue Dragonfire. When this happens, the symbol expands 1 position in a north, south, east and west direction. A new payout is then made with the added symbols in place. This is known as the Dragonfire feature.

Dragon Champions also comes with a Dragon Champions Free Games feature - land 3, 4, 5 or 6 of the free spins scatter anywhere on the same spin and you’ll trigger the feature and with it, 8, 15, 25 or 100 free spins. The Dragonfire feature is also in play during the free spins.

The Dragonfire can only affect the highest value red dragon symbol during the feature meaning you can expect some good results when it does. Land 2 scatters during the feature and an extra 5 free spins will be added to your total – there’s no limit to how many more free spins you can win.

Dragon Champions is a relatively simple game - the Dragonfire expansions land at regular intervals and can provide some decent base game action, especially if they engulf a higher value symbol. The Dragon Champions Free Games feature is perfectly solid too, without offering anything particularly flashy. We found the volatility to be sky high so you need to be patient.

The visuals are good but and the sweeping orchestral soundtrack has a hint of Game of Thrones, especially in the feature. As mentioned, the variance is high so you need to tread carefully. Overall, we enjoyed Dragon Champions as it offers you simple sword and sorcery adventure with monster wins if you’re luck is in. I also suggest you try Buffalo Blitz (also by Playtech) which is also highly volatile and similar in terms of gameplay.
