Like most slot games in the Play ’N Go catalogue, Big Win Cat looks and sounds a treat. Set within a traditional Chinese-style building, the plain red reels include 9 different Asian-themed objects. They include coins, bells, money pouches, fans and hammers.
The best paying symbols are the smiling cartoon animals. Land 3 of the tortoise in a payline and you’ll win and award equal to 3 times your total stake. The pig awards 4 times your bet with the goldfish paying 5 times your stake if you land 3 in a payline. By far the most rewarding symbol is the cat which is the game’s wild - it replaces all other symbols and offers awards of 16 times your stake when you hit 3 in the same payline.
Those payouts might not sound like much. It’s possible to increase them markedly though. To do so, you’ll need to fill the whole of the reels with the same matching symbol and the wild cat. That’s not quite as tricky as it sounds. If you land 2 matching reels, you’ll trigger the Respin of Luck feature where you’ll be awarded a re-spin – this gives you another opportunity to land that elusive 3rd matching reel.
When you do get a full set of symbols, you’ll activate the Wheel of Multipliers feature. Depending on where the pointer lands, you’ll win a multiplier of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or 10x. This is then applied to you matching symbol payout and can lead to some very chunky rewards - awards of up to 800 times your stake are possible here.
Big Win Cat is a well-constructed slot game - the HD visuals are very well done and the classical soundtrack is a nice fit. Despite the lack of extras (no free spins or other goodies) we didn’t find this a boring game at all. We found it fairly volatile too.
Expect some lean spells but land a good multiplier from the wheel and the Big Win Cat can certainly live up to its name. If you like Asian themed games, there’s plenty to choose from – I recommend Empress of the Jade Sword from Microgaming.
