As we've come to expect from slots created by Playtech, the visuals in The Riches of Don Quixote are excellent. The beautifully drawn and richly detailed symbols include the love of Quixote's life Dulcinea and his trusty squire Sancho Panza. Rounding out the symbols are a Spanish conquistador's helmet and shield as well as playing card symbols from A to J. Our gallant knight Don Quixote is the game's biggest payer, offering 1,000 coins if you manage to find 5 in a payline.
The Riches of Don Quixote also comes with stacked symbols. The helmet, shield and playing card symbols all appear two high on the reels, boosting your win potential. The windmill is the wild symbol substituting for all other symbols apart from the scatter. Find a winning 5 symbol wild combination and you'll be rewarded with a payout of 3,000 times your line bet.
The Don Quixote Book symbol is the scatter - find 3 or more scatter symbols anywhere on the reels and you'll trigger the La Mancha Free Games feature. Here you'll be awarded 10 free games. That's not all though - the windmill wild will be locked in the middle row of reel 3 for the duration of the feature, giving your winning chances a nice upgrade.
Those wins can be boosted further courtesy of the expanding multiplier which applies throughout the feature. The Win Multiplier starts at 2x and will go up by one every 2 spins. This means you will get a 6x multiplier on your last 2 free spins! The only downside here is that the free spins can't be re-triggered.
Even if you've never read Don Quixote you'll still find plenty to enjoy here. The theme is a novel one and the visuals and Spanish style soundtrack are top drawer. There are some classy animations on show too. You can skip these of course by opting for the Turbo Mode feature (which allows you to spin the reels extremely quickly).
The Riches of Don Quixote isn't all surface and no substance though. The gameplay is silky smooth with the variance is in the medium range. Expect the big payouts to come via the free spins feature, which is a good one, complete with the frozen wild and expanding multiplier.
A great book doesn't often lead to a great slot. A pat on the back for Playtech then as The Riches of Don Quixote looks like being a winner. I’d also recommend White King and Sultan’s Gold which are volatile and 2 of my favourite Playtech games.
