The setting for Nian Nian You Yu is a classic red temple, flanked by lanterns. The symbols on the reels maintain the Chinese feel - look out for letters, blossom trees, lanterns, firecrackers, carpets, assorted Chinese food and a pair of fearsome oriental dragons. The green eyed dragon is the top paying symbol - just landing 1 of them will net you a payout, albeit of just 2 coins. If you're lucky enough to land 5 of them in a single payline, then a massive payout of 10,000 coins will be heading to the cashier.
The koi carp symbol is the wild - it doesn't offer any coin payouts but does substitute for all other symbols with the exception of the scatter. Any wins that feature the wild will also be boosted by a 2x multiplier and doubled.
The 4 Chinese letter character symbol is the scatter and offers payouts between 1 and 100 times your total stake if you land between 2 and 5 of them anywhere on the reels.
There's precious little to report on the features front - there aren't any free spins, pick me rounds or any other bonuses. The only extra on offer is a good 'un though. It's a 4-level progressive jackpot round which is triggered at random. You can even hit it after a losing spin. Once the Dragon jackpot round becomes active, you'll spin the wheel - collect 4 of the same dragon to win the corresponding jackpot prize.
Nicely designed and simple to play, Nian Nian You Yu is a pretty basic affair - it may lack for bonus features but the potential of the progressive jackpot payouts make it a very playable proposition. Get lucky and Nian Nian You Yu can certainly match its names and offer abundance aplenty. If you like the theme, and progressive jackpots, I recommend Sun Wukong (also by Playtech).
