Set against a backdrop of ice crystals, the reels in Kingdoms Rise: Reign of Ice include 4 lower value gemstones, 3 medium paying weapons and the Ice Valkyrie and the Ice Barbarian. The bearded Barbarian is the most rewarding symbol. He pays 3, 6 or 12 times your stake if you land 3, 4 or 5 across a payline. There’s also a standard wild that can land on reels 3, 4 and 5 and the Hammer wild that can hit on reel 2.
The Hammer Respins feature is triggered if you land a Hammer Wild on reel 2 plus an Ice Valkyrie or an Ice Barbarian anywhere else on the reels. 1 Hammer Wild is released for each Valkyrie or Barbarian, up to a maximum of 4. These are collected in a meter above the reels and come with a 1x, 2x, 3x or 5x multiplier attached.
A series of respins then follow. Any wilds that land on reels 3, 4 or 5 are frozen in position. If a Hammer Wild lands on reel 2, it unfreezes 1 of the hammers in the meter. The feature continues until there are no hammers left in the meter.
Collect tokens to buy features
Like the other slot games in the Kingdoms Rise series, you can collect gold tokens and buy extras in the Kingdoms Rise shop. For starters, you can spend 400 or 1,500 tokens to buy 1 or 4 hammers from the multiplier bar. You can also buy the following extras.
Barbarian Respins feature
The Barbarian Respins feature is a streak respin round will set you back 800 tokens. The more Barbarians that land during your respins, the bigger the multiplier bar gets. This multiplier is applied to your total stake when your respins are complete.
Valkyrie Respins feature
For 1,000 tokens, you’ll get to play the Valkyrie Respins feature. You’ll start with 3 respins. If an Ice Valkyrie lands, it locks in place and the respins reset to 3. Also in play here are 5x multipliers which become active if you fill a whole reel with Ice Valkyries. The round ends when you’re out of respins or the whole of the screen is filled with Valkyries.
As part of the Kingdoms Rise network, there are 3 jackpots to be won – you can enter the Kingdoms Rise Jackpot feature randomly. You have the Daily Strike Jackpot which is won by the date and time provided. The Power Strike Jackpot will be won before a reaches a certain amount. The Epic Jackpot is truly progressive and has no limitations.
Kingdoms Rise: Reign of Ice verdict
As usual for a Playtech slot, there’s an epic feel to the design in Kingdoms Rise: Reign of Ice. The range of extras isn’t massive. You can expect to land the respins regularly. We found them to be a bit hit and miss.
Landing multiple hammer wilds and their associated multipliers is the key to success – this can lead to 1,500 times stake payouts on each respin. The round can be a bit tricky to understand so a few demo mode spins are recommended. It’s not our favourite of the Kingdoms Rise slots but Reign of Ice is a still a very playable slot – I would suggest you try Kingdoms Rise: Guardians of the Abyss which is my favourite.
