Playtech has obviously invested heavily on the look and feel of Battle of the Gods. The images of the gods shown are the reels are extremely detailed and the animations are sleekly done. The Gods feature on reels with the blue backdrop. The Titans have the brown. They're both very dark and a little tricky to identify at first. A few spins in and you'll soon pick it up though. The soundtrack has a suitably epic feel too.
The Wild is the biggest paying symbol, offering payouts of 10,000 times the line bet if you manage to hit five in a payline. Battle of the Gods comes with two main features. First is the X feature which is only available in the base game. It is triggered when 5 Gods land to form an X shape on the reels. If this happens you're in line for a 5x multiplier.
The main bonus is the Free Games feature which is activated when 3 or more Parthenon scatter symbols appear anywhere on the reels – there are 2 modes. You'll always start in the Gods mode which offers unlimited spins. Only the 5 God symbols feature on the reels. Should the sole Titan symbol, Cronus, appear in the middle reel though, you'll be transferred to Titan mode where a total of 8 free spins are on offer.
The Titan Mode only has Titans on the reels. Once again, watch out for the middle reel. If the sole Wild God symbol appears you'll be transferred back to the Gods Mode. The free spins continue until you end up in the Titan Mode and use up all 8 free spins. It's possible to jump back and forth a few times and if you manage to get a good run in the Gods Mode the results can be very impressive.
On the variance scale, Battle of the Gods is on the low side of medium. It is possible to win a decent amount with the free spins the best route to doing so. Battle of the Gods shares the same game engine as X-Men so if you've played that you'll have an idea of what's on offer. The key to success here is the free spins. Get on a roll and if the Gods are smiling you can win a bumper haul of coins.
As you can probably tell, it’s not my favourite slot by a long way – Playtech are rumoured to be losing the Marvel license in 2016 so are creating replicas of their very popular Marvel slots but Battle of the Gods is a replica of a slot I don’t particularly like – well, there are much better Marvel games like The Avengers and Thor The Mighty Avenger.
