Playtech has kept things relatively simple as far as the design of Age of Egypt goes - a starry night sky with pyramids and the entrance to a temple form the backdrop to the plain blue reels. There you’ll see lower value A to 10 royal values plus the usual selection of Egyptian hieroglyphs. They include a scarab beetle, the bird god Horus and eye of Ra which is the top standard symbol, awarding up to 25 times your stake per payline.
The Pharaoh’s death mask is the wild - it replaces everything bar the bonus and scatter symbols and will get you 0.5, 10, 100 or 500 times your stake if you land 2, 3 4 or 5 in a single payline. Age of Egypt comes with a pair of bonus features:
Anubis Bonus feature - this round is triggered by landing 3 of the dog god Anubis symbol on the same payline on successive reels, starting from reel 1. You’ll then progress to the Tomb of Anubis where picks mean prizes. You’ll get 3, 4 or 5 selections depending on how many bonus symbols triggered the feature.
Royal Treasury Free Games feature - and 3 or more of the Cleopatra scatter anywhere on the reels to trigger the second bonus and a payout of 5, 50 or 500 times your total stake. Here you can look forward to 10 free spins. All payouts during the feature benefit from a 3x multiplier and are trebled. There’s nothing very innovative on offer in this trip to the desert. The visuals are middle of the pack and you’ll have seen the pick me and free spin rounds in many other slots. A little vanilla it might be but Age of Egypt is a perfectly solid all-rounder.
The features, especially the Royal Treasury Free Games feature, can deliver some excellent action thanks to the trebling multipliers. It’s not particularly original but what it does it does well. If you’re a lover of all things ancient, then Age of Egypt is well worth a spin.
