The sound and visuals are pretty much what you’d expect from a title with this theme. With treasures chests full of gold and jewels in the background, you’ll see lower value A to J symbols alongside higher value birds, cats and snake gods and the queen and pharaoh. There’s also a wild that replaces everything bar the bonus.
Land that Bonus symbol to trigger the Spreading Bonus feature - all of the lower value A to J symbols adjacent to the Bonus symbol are also transformed into the Bonus symbol and a respin follows with all the Bonus symbols locked in place.
These respins keep on coming until a spin where no new symbol transformations are possible. All of the Bonus symbols are then transformed into the same higher value queen of pharaoh symbol or better still, wild. A new payout calculation is then made with the new cluster of matching symbols in place.
The second extra is the Sun Compass feature - this is triggered by landing a glowing version of 1 of the mid-range animal hieroglyph symbols. The arrow on this symbol will point in an up, down, left or right direction. Low value symbols in the path of the arrow are then upgraded to mid value symbols and a new payout consideration is made.
Finally, there’s an Ultimate Win feature – if you fill the screen entirely with the same symbol, your payout will be doubled. This means you can win up to 500 times your stake on each spin.
The sound and visuals on offer in Kingdom of the Sun: Golden Age are typical of what you’ll see in an Egyptian themed slot game. Very well done they are too. What makes this game different are the unusual features. We managed to land both at regular intervals and enjoyed some impressive results. We’d put the variance in the medium range.
You could spend an age searching through all of the ancient Egyptian-themed slot games on the online casino shelves - finding a fresh take isn’t easy but Playson has done just that. They’re not the most explosive extras but if you enjoy the desert theme but fancy something a little unusual then Kingdom of the Sun: Golden Age is certainly one to consider. I would also try Legend of Cleopatra, also by Playson, which is more volatile.
