Classic design
If you’ve played any of the other slots in this series, you’ll find plenty that’s familiar in Book of Ra Deluxe 10. The reels include the usual collection of lower value royals as well as more rewarding hieroglyph symbols. The plucky adventurer is the best of the standard symbols, paying 5 times your stake if you land 5 on a payline. He spins in stacked formation on the big set of reels.
2 sets of reels
If the symbols are familiar, the game engine is rather unusual. The action takes place on 2 different machines. To the left is a 5 reel, 4 row, 25 payline machine. To the right is a 5 reel, 12 row machine that offers 75 paylines. They spin independently and offer a total of 100 paylines.
Transferring wilds
The gold coin is the wild. This replaces all the standard symbols. If you land a full stack of wilds on the first machine, it duplicates into the same position on the bigger set. For example, if you filled reel 2 with wilds on the left-hand reels, reel 2 on the right-hand reels would also be filled with wilds.
Free spins with expanding & transferring symbols
The Book of Ra is the scatter. Land 3, 4 or 5 of these anywhere on the same spin and you’ll trigger the Free Spins feature and with it, 8, 12 or 20 free spins. Before they start, 1 symbol is picked at random. Each time this symbol appears during the feature, it expands to fill the whole of the reel.
That symbol then copies itself onto the other set of reels. The special expanding symbol also pays scatter style during the feature. They don’t have to be in the same payline to create a winner.
Medium variance
Novomatic has kept to its tried and tested formula in Book of Ra Deluxe 10. There’s nothing massively original about the design or gameplay. As far as variance goes, we’re in the medium range with top payouts of 500 x stake on each spin or free spin – the classic Book of Ra Deluxe slot offers 5,000 x stake wins so it a lot more appealing.
I would only play this version is your want a less volatile of the iconic classic – unfortunately though, there’s plenty of other ancient Egyptian themed slots which offer much more, such as Play ‘N Go’s Legacy of Dead.
