Shields of the Wild Slot

Join knight Sir Virilis Manblade on the medieval battlefield in Shields of the Wild, a 5 reel, 10 payline slot game from NextGen Gaming. Symbol upgrades are central to the action in this fantasy adventure. Look out too for free spins with marching stacks and even more upgrades. Play on all devices from between 10p and £100 per spin.

A rural battlefield forms the backdrop to the action here. The reels are made up of 8 different shield and coat of arms symbols. The best of these is the one featuring the golden lion. Land 3, 4 or 5 of these and you’ll receive 2.5, 5 or 10 times your stake.

More rewarding is the Shields of the Wild logo which is the wild. This pays 3, 10 or 25 times your stake as well as substituting for all other symbols bar the scatter. Shields of the Wild comes with 2 features:

Shield Wall feature - this can trigger at random on any spin. A volley of arrows is fired at the reels and all symbols apart from the wild and scatter are upgraded. You could receive up to 8 upgrades here which can lead to plenty of extras wilds and some impressive results.

Marching Stacks Free Games feature - land 3 or more scatters on the same spin to trigger this round. Once triggered, a stack of the same matching symbol appears on reel 5. The scatter symbol is replaced by the upgrade symbol. If no upgrade appears on a free spin, the stack moves 1 reel to the left and another matching stack appears on reel 5.

If you do land an upgrade, the stack appears where it is but the symbols are upgraded to the next level. The feature continues until all 5 reels are filled with stacked symbols. After the initial run is completed you could be awarded a re-trigger. You’re guaranteed to win a prize of at least 20 times your total stake but can win up to 2,500 times your stake altogether.

Shields of the Wild is quite a volatile game with the variance in the medium to high range. We enjoyed this fantastical swords and shields adventure. The visuals are well put together and the soundtrack matches the theme perfectly. The features impress too. We landed the Shield Wall feature regularly, pocketing over 175 times our stake in one case after a fine run of symbols upgrades.

The Marching Stacks Free Games feature is much harder to come by but again the upgrades can deliver plenty of action. If you like the epic fantasy theme, Shields of Wild is one to add to your playing rotation. I also suggest you try Black Knight II from WMS which is both a land-based and online favourite.
