King Kong Slot

Based on the classic movie about a giant ape who takes over the New York skyline, King Kong is a 5 reel, 25 payline slot from NextGen Gaming. Watch out when the big beast goes ape to turn whole reels wild. Look out too for the bonus feature that can award up to 150 free spins with all wins doubled. Playable across all devices, take to the skies from between 25p and £50 per spin.

Visually, King Kong is very well produced - set against a cartoon backdrop of the New York skyline, the reels include movie tickets, handcuffs, a skull, a movie camera, a crab and a ship. The higher value symbols include a biplane, a Godzilla-style creature as well as male and female characters. You only need to find 2 of the higher value symbols in concert to create a winner. The blonde woman is the top payer offering a jackpot of 7,500 coins.

King Kong himself is the game's wild appearing on the middle 3 reels and substituting for everything bar the scatter. When he lands on reel 3, he'll trigger the King Kong Goes Ape feature and expand to fill the whole of the reel. Extra symbols on the adjoining reels (2 and 4) can turn wild too to create even more winning chances.

Land 3 or more of the King Kong logo scatter to trigger the King Kong Smash feature - you'll be taken to a new screen where a number of planes will try and get King Kong down from his skyscraper perch. Pick the planes which King Kong will then try and smash. The more planes he knocks out of the sky the more free spins you'll win.

This starts at 15 free spins for a single plane but can reach a mammoth 150 if he manages to hit 6 planes. Regardless of the number of free spins you win, all payouts during the feature will be doubled. Before the free spins play out, you'll be given the option of taking a mystery prize instead of your free spins. If you do go on to play the feature, you can re-trigger even more free spins if the scatters land favourably again.

NextGen Gaming's take on this classic tale is a good one - the Go Ape wilds can add some base game interest (we've won around 40 times our stake here) but the real thrills come via the free spins round. If the giant gorilla downs a good number of planes, then a mighty offering of free spins can follow. Throw in the 2x multiplier and there are some terrific prospects for a decent win. Don't expect to trigger the free spins that often though - this is a fairly volatile slot.

Featuring excellent design, some nifty animations and a stirring soundtrack, King Kong looks and sounds superb. With features to match, this monster-themed adventure can create some knockout opportunities. For similarly themed offerings, Playtech’s King Kong is also good as to is Rage of Riches from Play ‘N Go.
