As you’d expect from a Playboy-themed slot game, there’s a glossy, high-end feel to the design here - the emphasis is on luxury. The reels include playing card suit symbols alongside a selection of casino chips and the Playboy bunny logo. The gold block is the game’s wild.
Central to the action here are the Playmates who appear (fully clothed) in jumbo symbol blocks on the middle 4 reels – known as the Jumbo Blocks feature. Land a full 4x4 Playmate block and you’ll trigger the Instant Credit Prize feature (which gives you a cash prize), the Multiplier feature (which simply gives you a multiplier) or the Wild Respins feature
Once triggered, the jumbo symbol expands to fill the whole of the middle 4 reels. You’ll then receive between 2 and 4 respins. Any wilds that land on reels 1 and 6 turn sticky and remain locked for any respins you have left. A final payout is then made with all your extra wilds in play. The Re-spins aren’t the only extras on offer here.
- Wheel Bonus feature - this round is triggered by landing 3 wheel scatters on the same spin. Depending on where the pointer lands, you’ll win a payout of between 20 or 100 times your stake or you’ll trigger the Match Bonus feature or the Free Spins feature.
- Match Bonus feature - choose 2 cards from the 12 playing cards shown and try and make a pair. Depending on how long it takes, you’ll win a multiplier of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10x. If you manage it first time, you’ll win all those multiplier prizes.
- Free Spins feature - land the key from the Bonus Wheel and you’ll be awarded 10 free spins. A jumbo block is guaranteed to land on each of these free spins. The wild symbol can hit on reels 1 and 6 to boost your winning chances – it does remain sticky though.
The 6 reel, 10 row set up is a little unusual but the features work well enough. You can expect to land them all fairly regularly. The variance is in the low to medium range. The top shelf theme certainly won’t be for everyone (although there’s nothing very racy on show).
If you can see past that, there are some decent features on offer which makes Playboy Gold worth a look. Saying that, I do prefer Microgaming’s original slot game, simply called Playboy, which has 4 superb free spins features.
