The design in Rainbow Wilds is nicely done - sure you’ll see some of the usual clichés that dominate the reels in many similarly themed titles but the main symbols are 5 different types of berries. They’re joined by glasses of stout, harps and hearts as well as gold birds, horse shoes and 4-leaf clovers. Land 5 clovers on adjacent reels and you’ll pocket 20 times your stake.
There are 3 types of wilds on offer here. Wild stars are standard wilds that can land on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5. Sticky wilds (the pots of gold) can land on reel 3 only - they stay in position for as long as they form part of a winning combo. There’s also an expanding wild that can fill any or all of reels 2, 3, 4 or 5.
The game is played using tumbling reels - after a successful spin, the winning symbols are blasted away and new ones drop in place. These keep on coming as long as a new winning combination is created. You can expect to see more wild stars during the tumbles. Get on a roll with the tumbling reel respins, 4 or more, and you’ll trigger the Free Spins feature:
- 4 tumbles gives you 14 free spins
- 5 tumbles gives you 16 free spins
- 6 tumbles gives you 16 free spins with a 3x multiplier
- 7 tumbles gives you 20 free spins with a 3x multiplier
- 8 tumbles gives you 20 free spins with a 6x multiplier
Unfortunately, you won’t find sticky or expanding wilds during the free spins. However, each successive tumble increases a multiplier by 1 though which can quickly get the gold flowing. This means you could end up with a 10x multiplier potentially!
The design in many Irish-luck themed slot games is pretty crude - Iron Dog Studio has obviously put plenty of effort into making Rainbow Wilds look and sound a treat. The gameplay is also quite unusual for a slot game with this theme. The tumbling reel respins deliver plenty of action. We enjoyed the best results in the Free Spins feature naturally - even triggering the minimum 14 free spins we still managed to pocket over 100 times our total stake after enjoying a good run of tumbles.
Rainbow Wilds offers a fresh take on a classic theme. Get lucky with those multipliers and you could find some treasure at the end of this rainbow. If you want the luck of the Irish to rub off on you, Rainbow Ryan by Yggdrasil Gaming and Shamrockers Eire to Rock by IGT are recommended.
