King’s Honour Slot

Join an ancient English ruler in King’s Honour, a 5 reel, 100 payline slot game from Barcrest that is played using 2 reel sets. This Arthurian-inspired adventure comes with a huge range of extras including transferring wilds, re-spins and free spins with wild symbols, wild reels, transforming symbols and much else besides. Play from between 10p and £500 per spin.

The set up here is a little unusual. The main game engine is a standard 5 reel, 4 row affair. It’s joined by a 5 reel, 12 row machine which spins independently from the main set. Together they offer 100 paylines. Barcrest being part of Scientific Games, you’ll find this Colossal Reels game engine in plenty of WMS titles like Spartacus Gladiator of Rome.

We’ve not always been impressed with the design of Barcrest games but King’s Honour is a fine looking game. With a castle in the background, you’ll see lower value playing card suits spinning around the reels alongside axes, a crown, Stonehenge a warrior woman and the king. These latter 2 symbols can spin in full stacks. The king is the top payer, awarding 5 times your stake if you land 5 on a payline. Barcrest has packed in plenty of extras in this historical adventure:

  • Transferring Wild Bonus feature - land a stack of 4 wilds on any reel on the main set and it will transfer to the same position on the colossal reels. The wild then expands, turning the whole of that 12-row reel wild.
  • Kings Charge Bonus feature – 1 of the higher value symbols is picked at random. This symbol is dropped onto the reels and a new winning combo is created. The Kings Charge can strike a random on any spin.
  • Siege Spins Bonus feature - if you land 2 bonus symbols on the same spin, you’ll receive a re-spin which gives you the chance to land the third bonus which triggers the feature. You could also trigger the Siege re-spin with a stack of transferring wilds. This time the re-spins comes with the stacked wild locked in position.

The other symbol to look out for is the sword in the stone which is the bonus. This can land on reels 1, 3 and 5 on both reels sets. Hit 3 or more of them across both sets on the same spin and you’ll activate the Reel of Honour Bonus feature. First spin the wheel. This will determine how many free spins you’ve been awarded. You could also land a bronze, silver or gold pot multiplier prize of 50, 150 or 500 times your stake.

Hope to see a shield symbol land if you trigger the Free Spins feature as it awards a Colossal Reels Bonus. Pick from the shields to see what extras will be active:

  • Wild Arrows feature - a volley of between 10 and 40 arrows are fired at the reels, turning the symbols they hit wild.
  • Flaming Wild Arrows feature - the 10 and 40 arrows are again fired, turning symbols wild. 1, 2 or 3 re-spins are then awarded too, complete with the wilds locked in place.
  • Wild Reels feature - you can look forward to between 1 and 4 wild reels here.
  • Extra Free Spins feature - your tally of free spins is boosted by between 3 and 25.
  • Black Knight Bonus feature - the lower value suit symbols are transformed into higher value symbols.
  • White Knight Bonus feature - the suit symbols morph into the highest value warrior, king or wild symbols.
  • Colossal Win Multiplier feature - wins on the Colossal reels receive a multiplier boost of between 2x and 5x. You could also receive 1 or even 2 re-spins.
  • Cash Pot feature - an instant payout equal to 50, 100 or 500 times your stake is offered here.

Like most slot games in the Barcrest catalogue, you’ll be given the chance to up your stakes and play in Big Bet mode. This is a series of 5 linked spins that come at a cost of £20 or £30. That extra investment will get you expanding wilds and/or bonus modifiers.

Barcrest has certainly packed plenty into King’s Honour. With the 2 reels sets in play, the action here can look a little confusing at first view. It’s actually pretty straightforward. The visuals are nicely done and the range of extras delivers plenty of variety which keeps the gameplay fresh. If you like your slot games to come with the big dose of historical drama then King’s Honour delivers plenty. Alternatively, Black Knight II from sister company WMS is my pick.
