Dancing Drums Slot

Dancing Drums is a classical Chinese-themed slot game from Bally. The base game is played on a 5 reel, 243 ways to win machine. Trigger the bonus feature and you can choose between 3 and 15 free spins on machines that offer up to 7,776 ways to win. You’ll also have a shot at landing 1 of 4 fixed jackpots. Play from between 88p and £88 per spin on all devices.

There’s a very traditional feel to the design in Dancing Drums - red and gold dominate the colour scheme. On the reels, which are squashed to the bottom of the screen, you’ll see A to 9 playing cards plus drums, coins, silver pots, money trees and junk boats. The best standard symbol is the drum which offers awards of up to 50 times stake if you land 5 in combination. Winners are created by landing matching symbols on adjacent reels.

The main feature offering is the Free Spins feature which is triggered by landing 3 drum scatters on adjacent reels, starting from the left reel. You’ll then be given a selection of free spin options:

  • 15 free spins on a 3x5 grid
  • 10 free spins on a 4x5 grid
  • 5 free spins on a 5x5 grid
  • 3 free spins on a 6x5 grid
  • Mystery Pick – You could land any combination of free spins and grid size here

Land 2 scatters during the feature and you’ll get another 3 free spins added to your total.

Dancing Drums also gives the opportunity to land a jackpot prize – via the Jackpot Bonus feature. This round can trigger on any spin that features a wild. You’ll then be offered a selection of 12 coins. Keep choosing until you find 3 that match and that’s the prize you’ll receive. There are Mini, Minor, Major or Grand jackpots on offer. You can see how much they’re offering above the main reel set – the Grand jackpot is worth over 1,136 times stake.

Dancing Drums is a very simple game- the base game visuals feel a little cramped at the bottom of the screen. That’s to allow for the expanded machines in the bonus feature where things look a lot clearer. It’s all tastefully done but lacks the wow factor. The same goes for the gameplay which doesn’t offer anything we haven’t seen before.

With so many Chinese-themed slot games available, it’s hard to deliver something fresh. Dancing Drums, perfectly solid effort as it is, doesn’t quite manage that. I would also recommend 88 Fortunes, by Bally, which has a similar feel.
