The reels are set against a sea and sky backdrop and include 6 high values symbols - they are the anchor, treasure chest, port city, sailing ship, eagle and beautiful woman. They're joined by a quartet of gemstone symbols which makes a nice change from the usual playing card filler.
Sinbad himself is the wild - he substitutes for every other symbol bar the scatter. All symbols can appear as stacked ranging from 2 symbol stacks on reel 1 right up to seven symbols stacks on reel 6. The Sinbad wild can also hit as stacked, filling up the whole reel in which it appears.
Land any part of the golden shield symbol on reels 2, 4 and 6 and you'll trigger the Free Spins feature - here you'll be awarded 7 Leviathan free spins. The stacks on the reels are reversed during the feature with the 7 symbol stack appearing on reel 1 rather than 6 - this makes it that much easier to create winning combinations. Look out too for the Leviathan symbol which can land in a 4x5x4 configuration on any 3 consecutive reels and turn them all wild.
The 164 paylines keep the base game action ticking over but the better opportunities come via the Free Spins feature where the big stacks on the left of the reels combined with the leviathan wilds can really deliver.
In terms of visuals, Sinbad's Golden Voyage is very nicely done and the action plays out to a soundtrack that matches the epic feel - the rather unusual screen configuration takes a little getting used to but once you've got your eye in it becomes a simple enough play. It does remind me a little of WMS Gaming’s Zeus III.
The variance is in the medium range offering a balanced range of payouts. Ash Gaming deserve a pat on the pat for trying something different in Sinbad's Golden Voyage - the game engine won't be to everyone's taste and it can be frustrating waiting for the free spins to arrive.
