Dolphins Slot

As its name suggests, Dolphins is an aquatic-themed slot game. Created by Aussie developer Ainsworth and played using a 5 reel, 30 payline game engine, it comes with a bonus round that awards up to 15 free spins with stacked wilds hitting on the middle 3 reels. Play on all devices from between £1.20 and £48 per spin.

The set up in Dolphins is very straightforward. Set against a simple sea bed backdrop, the plain white reels are made up of lower value royal values plus a selection of underwater imagery. They include, shells, pearls, fish and treasure chests. The top paying standard symbol is the golden galleon. Land 3, 4 or 5 of these on a payline pays or 1.67, 3.33 or 33.3 times your total stake.

The dolphin is the game’s wild. It substitutes for all other symbols apart from the coin scatter. It can appear fully stacked on reels 3, 4 or 5 in the base game.

Dolphins comes with a Free Games feature - to trigger it, you’ll need to land 3, 4 or 5 of the coin scatter on the same spin. After receiving a payout of 2, 10 or 100 times your total stake, you’ll then be awarded 10 free spins. The only difference to the base game here is that the stacked wilds can appear on reels 2, 3 and 4 rather than 3, 4 or 5. Landing 3 scatters on the same free spin during the feature results in an extra 5 free spins being added to your total.

Dolphins is a very simple game. The design is typical of an Ainsworth slot game in that it’s functional rather than stylish. The gameplay is as stripped back as the visuals. The Free Games feature is decent enough and the stacked wilds which can hit on the middle 3 reels can deliver some decent action. The volatility here is in the medium range.

There’s nothing innovative about the sound, visuals or gameplay on offer in Dolphins. It’s serviceable enough but rather dull. If you’re an Ainsworth fan, by all means dive into these waters. We won’t be getting our feet wet with the Dolphins too often though. If you like dolphins, Novomatic’s Dolphin’s Pearl Deluxe is a much better alternative.
