Matsuri Slot

A traditional Japanese festival is the setting for Matsuri, a 5 reel, 25 payline slot game from Play ‘N Go. This highly volatile game comes with a pick'em round as well as a free spins feature where expanding, walking wilds can come into play. Stakes range from between 25p and £100 per spin.

The design in Matsuri has a very traditional feel - pastel shades dominate the colour scheme. Set against a bay lit up by multiple lanterns, the reels include assorted Japanese snacks, fans and flowers. They are joined by a trio of kimono-wearing women. The most rewarding of these will get you 350 coins if you land 5 on a payline.

The lantern is the wild - it can land anywhere on the reels and replaces all other symbols apart from the bonus and scatter. 3, 4 or 5 wilds on a payline will get you 1, 4 or 25 times your total stake. Matsuri comes with 2 bonus features which are described as follows:

Free Spins feature - land the ornate face mask scatter on reels 1, 3 and 5 on the same spin and you'll trigger the free spins feature. Here you'll be awarded 8 free spins. Every time a scatter lands during this feature, another 2 free spins will be added to your total, up to a maximum of 20.

Look out too for the wild - if they hit during the free spins, they expand to fill the whole reel. The expanded wild will then move 1 reel to the left on each free spin that follows until it drops off the reels.

Kingyo Sukui Bonus feature - this Japanese take on the classic pick'em round is triggered by landing 3 of the goldfish bonus symbols on the same spin. The goal is to try and collect goldfish using a paper spoon. The more fish you collect, the bigger the prizes you'll win. Keep on picking until you've landed them all or the spoon breaks.

With its traditional theme and pastel dominated visuals, you might think that Matsuri is a gentle slot game - it's anything but. This is a very volatile game - expect lengthy frustrating winless spells punctuated with the occasional biggie. Saying that, there’s potential wins of up to 3,000 times your total stake on each free spin!

We didn't expect much when we first fired up Matsuri - this is much feistier than the design would suggest. If you enjoy the Asian theme, high variance action and have the bankroll to cope with the potential big swings, then this is a Japanese festival that's well worth attending. If you like Japanese themed offerings, Koi Princess by Net Entertainment is another high variance option.
